     I know I would normally have a "craft" here, but this week, I thought I would do something "edible." But it's also sort of fun to play with, and if you color it, you can do stuff like you would with play dough. However, this is a lot stickier than play dough. So you might want to proceed with caution with allowing younger children to do this.

     Have you ever made your own mozzarella? It is one of the easiest cheeses to make and can be ready quickly. Make it Monday: Fresh Butter!

     Have you ever made your own butter? It's really not that hard and it tastes oh-so-good! It's so easy a kid can do it (though little ones may tire of doing before it's done). I remember doing this at the fair a few years ago. Read the rest of this post.

Festive Friday: Train Cake

     Today I thought I'd share the cake I made for my son's first birthday. It is not quite as simple as my daughter's flower cake, but it's not super complicated either. As you can see, it is a train cake. Not super steady work, but it was late and I was ready for bed!
     For the train cars I used a loaf pan for the cakes and Oreo cookies. After baking the mini cakes, I trimmed the tops so they were flat. I cut a couple of the loaf cakes in half and stacked the halves, as pictured below. I also took 3 oreos and "glued" them together with icing for the engine car.
    

     I found that the Wilton cake icer tip works just right for covering 3 oreos and it also worked well for the rest of the car. I used oreos for the wheels as well! Decorate the cars as you see fit. You can use lots of candy if you want. I used a random toy my kids had and a number candle. What do you think?

Make Eating Fun with @FunBites!

     A few weeks ago I received a fun little gadget to try out. It's called Fun Bites. What's it for? Well, it's used for cutting a large food item (sandwich, pizza, pancakes) into bite-sized pieces. The pieces are great for little hands to pick up!

     Take a simple ham sandwich, for example:

     Place the Fun Bites cutter on the sandwich. Press down and wiggle it back and forth a bit to make sure the sandwich is thoroughly cut.

Insert the "popper" to push the food out.

And this is what comes out. I got the heart cutter, as you can see.

     Look what else you can do with the heart cutter! 2 sailboats and a sun (made of cheese). I got the idea on the Funbites website. :-) Blueberries (or at least purple grapes) would have been better for water, but I didn't have any!

     This is great way to make food "fun" to entice picky eaters. Also, this would be a quicker way to cut up bite sized appetizers for your next party. Just stick a toothpick in!
